About Me

August 2008 - January 2011

Welcome, my name is Lee Ann and I am the owner of Tranquility Quilts & Fabric Shop. I have been involved with some type of craft or sewing since my teen years. I spent summers with my grandmother, Lena Stafford, who taught me to paint with china and oil mediums. While I haven't picked up a china paint brush in some time, and oil painting didn't suit me, I liked sewing my clothes, stuffed animals, and other fun projects. My mother was very talented as well and my interest in counted cross stitch, embroidery, and sewing came from her. I always have some project or ten going all the time. With all the gifts bestowed upon me from these 2 talented ladies, my passion became quilting, which ironically, neither of them quilted. I guess it skipped 2 generations because I have 2 beautiful quilts from my great grandmother.

My interest in quilting came from my neighbor who showed me all the quilts that she had completed. I thought to myself: 'self, if she can do it, so can I!' The next day I bought a 'Quilt in a Day' pattern book, the material, and supplies and went to town. It was a blast! Soon my sewing room looked like a miniature fabric store. I know you know what I'm talking about.

As I approached the big 50, I kept telling my husband I wanted to start a business and after a few years of discussion and analysis paralysis AND the big 50 passing, I came up with a name and here we are. Why quilts and fabric you may ask? Because it's what I love. Don't get me wrong, I'm no expert, but I believe each of us can do anything we want to once we put our mind to it...and do it.

I am the mother of 2 daughters, Desiree & Jennifer, and have 5 grandchildren, 3 boys and 2 girl. My husband is the best in the world and I appreciate his support and undying belief in my abilities. My mother passed away some time ago from Ovarian Cancer, hence the Charity Quilting which I hope to incorporate into the site with help from you.

Tranquility Quilts & Fabric Shop is on-line only, but is located in Buena Park, CA or The OC or Southern California. For those of you not familiar with the area, we are steps from Knott’s Berry Farm and a short drive to Disneyland. The name came from a compilation of terms that I equate to quilting: peaceful, quiet, relaxing, quiet, fun, quiet, did I mention quiet? Tranquil.

I hope you find what you are shopping for, and I really hope you have fun doing it. Stop back in often as we are constantly adding new fabric and products. If you would like to share your masterpiece with us, please send me a picture and I will gladly post it in our gallery.

August 2011

August is our anniversary, and this year is our 3rd year in business. My sister, Linda, and I have finally left our jobs in corporate America to open a quilt shop. Our official opening day was January 25, 2011 in Cypress, CA. We have been blessed with many wonderful customers who soon became friends and both of us are now stress free! When your job is something you love to do, then it really isn't a job. We have expanded our fabric lines and notions. Since I wrote the information below, I have 6 grandchildren now, and 2 Yorkies that have become my "children" at home. Both are very spoiled. My youngest daughter is quilting, and I'm teaching my granddaughter, Haley, to quilt and sew. Linda has 1 granddaughter, and a grandson is expected soon. Both of her daughters work in the store part-time and both have started quilting. We truly are a family run business.

Linda and I thank you for stopping in and reading about us. Please look around and enjoy your visit.

Have a great day!
